Announced on the MMS Morning News at 8:00, Superintendent, Dr. Sue Burgess, told the staff and students of MMS that their Principal, Terry McGinnis, has been chosen as the 2008-2009 Dare County Principal of the Year. This honor is awarded to a principal of Dare County each year and is chosen by his administrative colleagues.
MMS Teacher of the Year, Jeff Whitt, stated, "Mr. McGinnis is well deserving of this honor. Through his leadership, he has taken this school to new heights and has raised the bar of expectations for every staff, faculty, and student at MMS. Through his promotion of creative teamwork programs, Mr. McGinnis has been instrumental in bridging the gap between grade levels and encouraging each and every teacher to reach beyond the boundary of the educational walls to the community which helps the 'whole' student find success. Mr. McGinnis is truly a 21st Century Administrator who expects excellence from everyone involved."
Under Mr. McGinnis' leadership, Manteo Middle School has recently been recognized as a School of Excellence by the NC Board of Education, which indicates reaching all goals set forth by Board policy on End-of-Grade testing and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Also, Manteo Middle School has just been notified by the NC Governor's Office of the recognition of being one of the top 50 schools in the state (also the only school in Dare County), in the Real D.E.A.L. Award program. This award recognizes schools who demonstrate exemplary leadership, teamwork, and overall work environment.
Congratulations, Mr. McGinnis, for receiving this oustanding recognition.
